Product Overview and Features
Optimize and monitor the effectiveness of your water
injections
As an oil field matures
the natural reservoir pressure declines causing reduced oil
production. The decline in production is typically represented by an
annual percentage. For example, a 10% decline means that next year the
well will produce 10% less than the prior year e.g. 100 bbls, 90, 81,
73… etc. At some point, the flow of oil into the well bore is
reduced where the oil well can no longer produce an economical
quantity of oil. When this occurs, the oil producer will normally
begin injecting water into the reservoir formation to increase the
reservoir pressure and drive the oil toward the producing pumps.
To protect the reservoir
and measure the effectiveness of the water injection, the oil producer
needs to monitor both the pressure and quantity of water injected into
the reservoir. If the water is injected at too high a pressure, the
reservoir can be damaged. If water is injected too quickly into the
reservoir, the water will bypass or channel through the oil increasing
the water cut percentage and reducing oil production.

The Lufkin Injection Well Controller (IWC) gathers
and reports data from your injection well operations, helping you
protect your reservoir and track the effectiveness of your water and
CO2 injection. IWC enables you to monitor both the pressure
and quantity of water or CO2 injected into the reservoir, so you can
avoid reservoir damage from excessive pressure while optimizing oil
production. The IWC also provides optional advanced features
for:
The power of SAM™
The IWC operates on the Lufkin SAM™ Well
Manager platform, reducing the number of spare parts to keep on hand,
simplifying training, and giving you a convenient single source for
both rod pump and injection well automation. SAM is an advanced rod
pump control system that can control from downhole card, surface
card or motor speed. SAM’s powerful, patented technology uses a wave
equation algorithm to calculate a downhole card on every stroke of
the pumping unit. Its flash memory delivers quick upgrades without
changing components. And an additional expansion bus allows the unit
to grow with your requirements—making it fast and simple to add I/O
or communication ports.
