Product Overview and Features

The Lufkin Automation Inclinometer position measurement device is an analog input instrument that measures the angle of the walking beam as it moves.  It transmits the signal relative to this angle (or “incline”).  The device was originally designed for use in the aircraft industry and is commonly used to show the angle of the control surfaces such as rudder or flaps.

The Lufkin Automation Inclinometer is a tuned circuit with a variable capacitor.  The capacitor is comprised of two flat plates with a dielectric fluid between them.  As the device tilts the amount of fluid between the plates changes thereby changing the capacitance.  The changing capacitance changes the frequency of the tuned circuit.  A frequency to voltage converter stage provides a DC voltage output that is proportional to the degrees of tilt.

Key Operational Features

The Lufkin Automation Position Inclinometer is sold in two versions:

1.  A magnet mounted independently installed device which is very simply attached by a magnet to the side of the walking beam on a pumping unit.

2.  An integral inclinometer is sold within the housing in the “combined” Beam Mounted Load Cell with Inclinometer, which provides a for a device that does both load and position measurement and requires only one cable.
