Diagnostic Software Version for Vertical and Deviated Wells

Our unique DIAG software gives you the tools to analyze and diagnose both deviated and vertical rod-pumped wells. When deviated wells are produced with rod pumping equipment, the straight rods scrape against the bent tubing, causing equipment wear and power loss. Software products intended for vertical wells inaccurately model downhole friction in deviated wells. As a result, they compute a distorted downhole pump card that can cause interpretation errors. DIAG prevents these problems and gives you a clear, accurate picture of exactly how the deviation affects your well — so you can improve production.

DIAG 5.0 uses a deviated hole model and modified wave equation to analyze the downhole dynamometer card. This provides accurate information about pump efficiencies, producing pressure, tubing and pump leaks, and other downhole conditions. Using inflow performance relationships, the program calculates the well’s production potential based on computed producing pressure. In addition, Deviated DIAG 5.0 can determine ideal counterweight placement to balance the pumping units for power savings and minimum torque load.

Technical Enhancements

• 32-bit arithmetic - Provides additional speed, accuracy and compatibility with newer operating systems.

• Vertical and Deviated Well Analysis - Requires a deviation survey (measured depth, inclination from vertical, and azimuth) for the deviated version; uses the same survey format as SROD$$. Helps user choose a proper coefficient of friction by observing its effect on the downhole pump card. Infers the coefficient of friction by using measured traveling valve and standing valve loads.

• Import Survey Files - Imports some commercial text-formatted deviation survey files directly from diskettes. Imports and converts other surface dynamometer data files into the Lufkin Automation format.

• Rod Guide Database - Includes rod guide information for use in the deviated version. Automatically converts the current well database into the new version database format.

• 3D Plot - Produces a 3-D plot of the bore hole similar to SROD$$.

• Enhanced Equipment Database - Includes the latest SROD$$ pumping unit databases and rod load criteria for a variety of steel rods. Treats all currently available fiberglass and composite models.

• Clipboard Utility - Enables user to send graphic and text displays to the clipboard for pasting into word processor documents.

• User-Friendly Operations - Allows easier rod string selection and well data input. Double-clicking on selected items automatically enters rod properties.

• Type and Edit Deviation Survey - Adds insert and delete buttons so user can edit surveys.

• New Reports - Features improved reports and new scaled printouts of axial load, buckling tendency, side load and drag load.

• Run Counter - Shows number of runs at all times on the input screen. Prevents lost time caused by running out of runs at night or on weekends.

• User Warnings - Issues warnings when inadequate information is entered in key areas.

• Overlay Features - Improves the overlay feature of dynamometer cards between SROD$$ and DIAG$$, the Vogel IPR curve, and pumping speed measurements.
